We had a great Christmas and it was really nice to see Louise open and play with all of her new toys – but it was a little bittersweet since we weren’t around family. We of course called and Facetimed with both families, but I was still a little bummed. Luckily my dad’s brothers were both around and we got to see the extended family at my grandparent’s for Christmas dinner which really helped it feel more like Christmas.
I wanted to make sure we took a couple of photos, but the fancy camera with a timer was in New York and we didn’t have anyone to take a full family photo, so we took turns with baby girl. She and her dad are such goofballs.
We gave Louise a little bit of an early bath on Christmas Eve so she could scamper out and open one present. She found this toy at Barnes & Noble and carried it all the way to the checkout on her own, so I figured she deserved it.
Mike and I stayed up until about 12:30 putting together her play kitchen from Grammy & Grumps and her Cozy Coupe from Aunt Dominique. We also threw together her book sling thing, so it was a pretty productive evening. When Louise woke up Christmas morning she was very pleased with her loot! She actually played with each new toy, it was really cute.
There was a corner of her room that just had her old infant car seat and one of her strollers hanging out in it. As we are cleaning and organizing in anticipation of baby #2, I decided we needed to make her room more inviting for her – her own little place. We moved out the stroller and car seat and created a little “book nook.” We already owned her chair and her elephant light, so we added the book sling, the storage ottoman and the rug. She loves it and knew exactly what to do.
Overall I think we got her a good mix of toys that she kind of needed – more puzzles, a dump truck with Duplo blocks, a special reading space, some role-playing with the kitchen, and of course her favorite, the Cozy Coupe. Not to mention Dominique put together an alphabet book with photos (“A is for Aunt,” “B is for Beignets,” etc) that made me cry it was so thoughtful.
