August/September goals

August goals:

  1. Drink more water.
    1. Yuppers
  2. Scan in Louise’s art that I don’t want to keep but want to remember.
    1. Done
  3. Get on a more consistent schedule with working out. I’ve been doing ok but it’s pretty random. Hopefully after Montana I can normalize.
    1. Meh
  4. Finish the cloud storage for photos and delete from my computer. (Very stressful…deleting 9k+ photos from my computer!! But I desperately need the memory).

September goals:

  1. Clean up and organize my bathroom. Too many cosmetic boxes, old costume jewelry, and perfume I’ll never wear!
  2. Make a dent in the 2017 photo book. I need to get a move on as we head into busy season.
  3. Start running again. The weather’s been surprisingly mild, and I have this really old HIIT regimen I tore out of a Women’s Health magazine that is a 5-week program. I’ve been doing it for the past two weeks – it really helps me to have a plan!
  4. Start figuring out all of the holiday clothes for the girls! Between pumpkin patches, holiday photos, Christmas activities, and various parties…there are a lot of outfits to coordinate!

July/August goals

July goals:

  1. Continue to work out to prepare for Montana
    1. I was ok at this. Less running since it’s oppressively hot, more weight lifting.
  2. Organize the girls’ school art
    1. Technically I did this the first day of August, but it’s done! I had saved…a lot of stuff from Louise.img_9097
  3. Start on 2017 photo book
    1. Yup!! My computer is slow because I have way too many photos stored on it, so I’m working on uploading photos from 2009-2012 to the Amazon Prime Photo storage to have a second backup (in addition to an external hard drive…and Shutterfly and Facebook too, I guess). It’s taking forever, which is holding up my ability to continue with the photo book.
  4. Take inventory on the girls’ school uniforms and order what they need.
    1. Done and done! Just need to get a few gingham dresses for Louise at the school store, but everything else is purchased. Polos, bottoms, socks, shoes.
  5. Start on our Halloween costumes.
    1. “Start” means order various things on Amazon, which I did.

August goals:

  1. Drink more water. I’ve noticed my water intake is pretty minimal these days (lots of tea…caffeinated and non-caffeinated), so I need to fix that.
  2. Scan in Louise’s art that I don’t want to keep but want to remember.

June/July goals

A little late to the game, but here you go. Here’s how I did on June’s goals:

  1. Get back on the workout bandwagon
    1. I did a pretty good job of this!
  2. Celine and Louise’s photo books.
    1. I finished Celine’s and had it printed, and have one more month of Louise’s to go before hers is done too. I’m excited to get the girls’ books done because I have an idea of how I want to do the calendar year books moving forward and I wanted to get started on 2017!
  3. Organize the girls’ art from the past school year. I want to do two things: pare down what I’ve kept to the ones that mean the most and put them in a portfolio box, and scan them in so I can eventually create a photo book with all of their art.
    1. Moving to a July goal – something good to get done before school starts again. They’ve been bringing a lot home from summer camp too so it’s really piling up.
  4. Put the shower curtain up in the girls’ bathroom.
    1. Done! Finally bought a curtain rod and put it up.
  5. I have two Mike goals (things I want done but would rather Mike do them): change our air filters and clean our gutters.
    1. He did them – along with power wash the outside of our house. Boy did it need a cleaning!

July goals:

  5. Start on our Halloween costumes. I know it seems super early, but both girls are very clear in what they want to be (they want to be the same thing, just like last year), and I know exactly what I need to do to get all of our costumes in a good place. Mike’s will probably take a bit of time, so starting it now means I won’t be in a time crunch later.

May/June goals

May goals: I’m about half and half. I really need to get going on the photo books!!

  1. Not fall completely off the exercise bandwagon.
    1. I guess you could say I haven’t…I’ve worked out about 2x per week, not including our Germany trip. Still not as strong as I was earlier this year.
  2. Celine’s photo book – only five left to do (months 8-12)! I can do it!
    1. I did not do it.
  3. Louise’s photo book. This might bleed into June, considering I’m farther behind it than Celine’s.
    1. Yup…definitely bleeding into June.
  4. Declutter toys – specifically, donate all too-young toys and trash the broken/parts-missing ones.
    1. Hey! I actually did this! I pulled a bunch of infant and younger toddler toys out of their various nooks and crannies and have them boxed up for donation. We also had various bins filled with parts of toys that I just trashed.
  5. Organize the kids’ hall closet. This includes moving all linens, drapes, pillows, etc to bins in the garage, and adding designated spaces for themed toys (Play-Doh, musical instruments, etc).
    1. I didn’t really move the linens, but I DID organize the closet! It’s so much easier for the girls to grab what they want now, and it gives a home to the toys that have a lot of components. I threw away a couple of old pillows and made room for the girls’ 4,291 blankets.IMG_7962

June goals:

  1. Get back on the workout bandwagon
  2. Celine and Louise’s photo books. I only have three more months for Celine so I’m pretty confident I can at least get hers done by the end of the month.
  3. Organize the girls’ art from the past school year. I want to do two things: pare down what I’ve kept to the ones that mean the most and put them in a portfolio box, and scan them in so I can eventually create a photo book with all of their art. (What’s my deal with photo books?)
  4. Put the shower curtain up in the girls’ bathroom. Since we bathe them, we haven’t had a need for a shower curtain. However, I think it’s time that Louise start taking showers at least some of the time, so I want the curtain there for when we’re ready to make that leap!
  5. I have two Mike goals (things I want done but would rather Mike do them): change our air filters and clean our gutters.

April/May goals

I did NOT do so well in April, unfortunately. Too much other stuff going on!

April goals:

  1. Exercise 3+ times per week.
    1. I didn’t really do this that well. I tried…but I probably averaged more like 2x per week.
  2. Manage travel stress.
    1. Yeah, you could say I did ok at this. I didn’t stress out too much during our Austin trip!
  3. Celine’s photo book.
    1. Noooooope. I don’t think I even finished one page.
  4. Replace air filters in the house
    1. Nope. I’m going to outsource this goal to Mike, I think.
  5. Declutter toys
    1. I’ve started this about a thousand times, but it overwhelms me each time and I never finish. I think I need to find a strategy to tackle – like by room, or by type of toy. I think the first step is goal #6 though, so I have the space to put some toys.
  6. Organize the two hall closets
    1. I’ve finished one closet, but it was mainly just trashing our DVDs (the packing tape from one of our apartment moves was still intact on the top…clearly we don’t need these anymore) and donating Mike’s video games. I still have to go through the toys in the bin that was in there, but now we have a board game/puzzle/big floor activity closet, which is nice!

I can’t really do May goals because things are so busy this month – I doubt I’ll have the time. I still want to do some organization and decluttering, and finish Celine AND Louise’s photo books. So I’ll just keep April’s goals for May and do my best!

May goals:

March/April goals

Once again, checking in on how March went, and solidifying my April goals.

March goals:

  1. Exercise 3+ times per week
    1. Did it, for the most part! I had a week-long break because of my leg, but otherwise, still fully on the workout train.
  2. Back up my computer
    1. Did this too…bought an external hard drive and used Time Machine to get everything on there. I still need to put my photos on Amazon Cloud but I at least have one backup option in the bag.
  3. 2016 photo book
    1. I DID IT YOU GUYS. Just in time to complete Celine’s Year 3 book…and then Louise’s Year 5 book…and then get started on 2017. #itneverends
  4. Order shutters for our living room windows and French doors
    1. Done and done! They take about eight weeks to come in, but they’ve been paid for and measured. I cannot wait to have shutters on the patio doors! It will solve so many TV-watching problems.
  5. Try to find nightstands for our master bedroom (moving ours to Louise’s room)
    1. Still TBD. It will happen when it happens!

I’m pretty pleased with my March progress, and it’s definitely helped me to have goals written down (versus just things I have in my head that I want to do). With that in mind, here we go for this month!

April goals:

  1. Exercise 3+ times per week. This is less of a “goal” at this point and more of a standard, but I’m going to keep it on here.
  2. Manage travel stress. This one is more mental than anything, but Mike and I are starting to travel a bit more this month, and that’s going to continue for the next few months. I want to practice mindfulness while traveling since flying (and logistics) usually works me up.
  3. Celine’s photo book. I did a fairly decent job of staying up-to-date on her book, so completing it by the end of April isn’t a major undertaking. It would be nice to have it complete before finalizing Louise’s in May/June!
  4. Replace air filters in the house
  5. Declutter toys. We have SO MUCH CRAP cluttering up our house. I want to do a clean sweep prior to Louise’s birthday (which comes with another onslaught of presents). This might also include buying more toy-organizing-things like bins, but we’ll see.
  6. Organize the two hall closets. This includes:
    1. All of the random sheets, blankets, drapes, and other linens in the linen/toy closet. They’re taking up precious toy space and we never use them. They’re better suited for a bin in the garage.
    2. Throw away old DVDs. Mike and I have boxes of DVDs in the den closet that – let’s face it – we’ll never use. I am all for sentimentality, but those just seem like something we can do without. Plus – I need that space for toys (eye roll).

February/March goals

Monthly checkup on how I did for February, and what my goals are for March!

  1. Exercise 3+ times per week
    1. Achieved. My “thing” happening to my leg in January finally turned into full-blown IT Band Syndrome, so I took two weeks off of running but still lifted weights. We didn’t do our monthly 5K because we both caught a 4-day stomach bug…not fun!
  2. Finish Celine birthday crafts
    1. All 15 pinatas are done (mostly…but I’ve earned this). Remind me never to do THAT again!
  3. Finalize 2016 photo book
    1. Ummmmm…
  4. Girl room updates
    1. Closets have been cleaned out and organized! I donated a bunch of baby clothes and things to a friend of a friend, which helped streamline Celine’s closet. Louise’s closet was a mishmash of clothes and shoes she’s outgrown along with linens. The clothes just needed organizing into the appropriate bins and I threw the shoe boxes away.2-22-17-closetimg_6138
    2. Louise’s room is good to go! The box springs really helped stabilize her mattress and she LOVES how it made her bed higher. She feels like an official big girl. Michael re-hung the canopy on a stud so I don’t think it’s going anywhere anytime soon. I did get rugs for either side of Louise’s bed – they’re not as “sheepskin”-style as I was hoping (kind of more of a bath-mat type feel), but they’re soft and get the job done. Also added is the amazing Christmas present from the Fausak-Perrys, hung on the wall.
    3. Celine’s room has been updated! Celine really likes it and so do I. We took down the quilt and put it on her bed, adding the Degas print and Fausak-Perry Christmas present to the wall.img_6130img_6129

March goals:

  1. Exercise 3+ times per week – really want to keep this going even after physical and illness setbacks.
  2. Back up my computer. I am going to need a new computer soon because my Mac is crapping out, which is a good reminder to back up my photos and files! I think I might try Amazon Cloud Drive for my cloud photo backup.
  3. Freaking 2016 photo book! I have to get this done before April because I have to start on 2017 as well!
  4. Order the shutters for our living room windows and French doors.
  5. Try to find nightstands for our master bedroom (moving ours to Louise’s room)
